Passing through these warping grounds
To rest this weary lens
Maybe we once sought this out
Encouraged by a friend
Twisted into patterns of behaviour
There’s platitude in playgrounds for the mind
Blankets of avoidance line this place that they call home
We come to dream inside the flames
We say ‘it’s only for the night’
Another, another night
It’s only for the night
Another, another night
It’s only for the night
Another, another night
It’s only for the night
Another, another night
The forest will absorb whatever lingers here
Swallowed into figures we once knew
Breathe it in before it fades to fondness
Nothing feels absurd out here
When everything’s on fire
The street’s on fire (on fire)
Island’s on fire
The rules are on fire (ooooo)
It’s all on fire
It’s all on fire
It’s all on fire
It’s all on fire (on fire)
It’s all on fire (fire)
It’s all on fire
Ruins Everything is a reflection on new beginnings, of rising from the ashes of what was and to have the courage to create what is. It is a step into the unknown and a revelling in the joy of what is to come. In this spirit, the record sees the outfit explore bold new sounds, weaving together junglist euphoria with introspective soundscapes and evocative wordplay from their featured guests.
"Snazzback...Great! There's been so much talk about the London jazz scene but there's ALOT going on in Bristol"- Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music)
“An explosive sense of energy...buzzing and fizzing with fresh ideas” - Clash Magazine
“SNAZZBACK... love that band - a seven piece collective from Bristol. Really sick !” - Jamz Supernova (BBC 6Music)
-------
Bristol's new wave dance floor instrumentalists announce their new album 'Ruins Everything' releasing on Worm Discs. Snazzback’s electrifying chemistry has wowed audiences at Ronnie Scott’s, festivals such as Glastonbury, Boomtown & Shambala and gained support from BBC Radio heavyweights including Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova and Jamie Cullum.
Snazzback's music is a collage, collectively constructed, torn up and glued back together in unexpected ways, bringing a renewed, daring energy to UK dance music. The 7-piece embrace their experimental beginnings to create a sound fusing abstract beats with spiralling improvisation. Their music is soaked in influences including interlocking West African rhythms, rootsy Brazilian flavours, sprawling soundscapes, deep dubstep basslines and flickering arpeggiators. A collaborative instinct runs through the group, and an eclectic choice of vocalists keeps their compositions shimmering with new possibilities.
Following their 2021 long-player ‘In The Place’, ‘Ruins Everything’ sees the seven piece outfit take time to reflect on the strange times we have come to inhabit, but also look ahead to a brighter future. The record shines a light on the group’s love of surrealism, not only with the dali-esque nod to the strange and absurd on the album’s artwork, but on a deeper level, the importance of finding a humorous and morale boosting lens through which to view the world, using joy as a form of defiance against dark times. Snazzback explains: ‘The title itself is a nod to seismic shifts that are a recent memory for everyone. But in a much broader sense the album is a reflection on new beginnings, of rising from the ashes of what was and to have the courage to create what is. It is a step into the unknown and a revelling in the joy of what is still to come.”

⚡️Snazzback's music overflows with deep grooves and loose,
lolloping rhythms that tease and play, sometimes languid and carefree, other times energy spiralling upwards.⚡️

In terms of where Bossfight (featuring London soul vocalist Pariss Elektra) fits into the sonic scale, it is a very close cousin of Afrobeat – let’s call it Afrostep, with a conscious hip-hop fronting. Such is the beauty of a collective of this kind is that they can seamlessly transcend between genres such as jazz and dance. Peter Donnelly

There's something about the composition, this kinda takes that AJE feel and smishes it into
something a whole lot more...darker? Not really, it's got lightness, it's definitely got rhythm and it grooves, deeply, right into your soul. Love this album, think it's my favourite release so far this year. Not for now is an absolute earworm...be warned!
